Millennium Volunteers

Millennium Volunteers is a national initiative which encourages young people aged 16-24 to make a sustained commitment to volunteering in their local communities.

MV in North Warwickshire provides local young people to with the fantastic opportunity to enhance their skills, interests and experiences through local voluntary action. Around 25% of the volunteers we support have special needs and may not have considered volunteering before. Since the project began in October 2000, 800 Millennium Volunteers have been recruited and are active in North Warwickshire. Volunteers commit up to 200 hours voluntary activity ranging from DJ'ing to digging and have contributed over 150,000 hours in North Warwickshire & Nuneaton alone.

MV accredits young people voluntary achievements with local and national accreditation including the Award of Excellence which is achieved at 200 hours voluntary commitment. MV also gives local young people the chance to celebrate their success through awards, celebration and social events every 6 months.

We offer young people the opportunity to join our community task force where they get a taste of volunteering through group activities. Also on offer are mentoring training, first aid training and youth achievement awards.

MV also encourages good practice in organisations interested in supporting young volunteers (sometimes for the first time). Good practice includes things like; developing policies and paying expenses. MV have produced a good practice guideline pack, which is available on CD rom and contains pro-forma's for organisations to adapt.
