New Ideas
New Ideas is an advocacy organisation working with adults with learning
disabilities in Warwickshire. It has been running since 1994.
Why do we need advocacy?
- There are over 1.2million people who have a learning disability in the UK>
- Our society is not good at listening to people who have a learning disability
- Many of them have little choice and control over what happens in their lives
- The right advocacy support can help change this!
What does New Ideas do?
Empowerment Work
- Locality meetings take place monthly in Atherstone, Nuneaton and Bedworth, Rugby,
Leamington and Warwick, and Stratford. This is a chance for people to
develop skills to represent themselves.
- The County Forum meets monthly for people with learning disabilities
from across Warwickshire come together to talk about what's happening in their area
- A conference every two years for people within Warwickshire to have their views heard.
Participation Work
- We support people to be involved in the planning of services at the Warwickshire Learning
Disability Partnership Board and to represent the views of people with learning disabilities.
Wacky Forum
- The Wacky Forum is a county wide forum for young people with learning disabilities in Warwickshire. The group is made up of student representatives from schools in the county. They meet monthly to discuss issues that interest them, develop their self advocacy skills and participate in consultation events. The group feeds their views on transition into the Warwickshire Learning Disability Partnership Board.
